Q. What is
different about Great
Lakes Smoked products
compared to others?
A.
Well for one thing we use only lean whole muscle products from beef
and pork like rounds, hams and tenderloins. We also use some
pork shoulder meat to make sure it stays moist. We never have nor
will we ever use fillers like beef hearts, cereals, and other
unmentionables you'll find in THEIR products. Just check THEIR
ingredient labels.
Q. What kind of smoke
is used?
A.
We use only Pure Hickory Chips.
No liquid smoke here. Hickory seems to give the best all around
flavor with a great consistency as opposed to a bitter mesquite.
Q. What is the shelf
life of Great Lakes Smoked products?
A.
From production to its expiration date there is from 9 months to
approximately one year till it expires! This is due to the sterile
environment its produced in plus the state of the are packaging
system we use. As long as it stays in its sealed package - it stays
fresh as the day its produced. Once you open it and the air gets to
it you'll have approximately one week where it will be at its peak
flavor depending on the refrigeration where its stored. Keep at 38
degrees or lower.
Q. Why is it
important to be made locally and not in mass production plants?
A.
Great Lakes Smoked Meats is community oriented and consider giving
back what we can to our local area here in Northeast
Ohio in the form of jobs, taxes and promotion for overall
wholesomeness. We were very proud for the past 2 years to be
featured in Cleveland's Fabulous Food Show at the IX Center with
nationally know chef's and celebrities.
